Fire Doors -\nRemediation & Installation<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Fire doors resist the passage and spread of a fire through the compartments in which they are installed. It is essential and a legal requirement for the manufacturer of fire doors to demonstrate the ability of their products, however if they are not properly installed their fire resisting capabilities are seriously compromised.<\/p>

The ironmongery and glazing systems should always be intumescent products and must be fit for purpose, suitable for use on the door set as identified in the global assessment, and function as intended.<\/p>

The installation of a fire door extends beyond the doorframe to the aperture reveal. The architrave and door frame packing material, whilst not strictly speaking are part of the door set, are key components in ensuring the overall performance of the fire door and should be fire stopped using the correct materials.<\/p>

A firestop or fire-stopping is a form of passive fire protection that is used to seal voids and gaps around service penetrations and between joints, in a fire rated compartment wall or floor assembly.<\/p>

Firestops are designed to maintain the integrity of a wall or floor assembly allowing it to impede the passage of fire and smoke.<\/p>

A firestop is much more than just \u2018sealing it up\u2019, it is essential that the correct materials are used and are installed correctly into the building fabric to restrict the spread of fire and smoke for a designated period.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

If escape routes are not handled correctly, they are one of the biggest risks for the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gasses, with airflow allowing smoke to spread through a building. Effective compartmentation will mitigate this and control the spread for a period of time.<\/p>

Compartmentation includes, but is not limited to ceiling voids, air ducts, pipes, joints and rafters and any other points of penetration.<\/p>

Periodic checks must be made to ensure the compartmentation has not been compromised.<\/p>
